Is the movie Cowspiracy a trick to get us into veganism

A new movie is out called Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret.

According to the official website, Cowspiracy is a:

… groundbreaking feature length environmental documentary, following an intrepid filmmaker as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it.

Cowspiracy makes a bold claim.

This movie deduces that animal agriculture accounts for over 50% of all CO2 gas emissions.

In simple speak, beef is killing our planet.

Film directors Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn created this documentary to mimic Al Gore’s famous film “An Inconvenient Truth.”

The punchline is this: Cowspiracy decides for us that a shift to Veganism is the way to fight back against the beef industry.

Yes, an entirely plant-based diet is the filmmaker’s solution.

Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or poultry…

Vegans, are even more extreme…

They do not use other animal products and by-products. This includes eggs, dairy products, honey, leather, fur, silk, wool, cosmetics, and soaps derived from animal products.

(Yes, even the half and half in our coffee is forbidden.)

The million dollar question is this: are we humans healthiest eating an exclusively plant-based diet?

John Adams and I have a (mostly) unbiased “meaty” conversation about Cowspiracy here:

What supplements should we take to help us get healthy?

According to Scientific American, today’s fruits and vegetables have become less nutritious.

Today’s carrot has less nutrition in it compared to the same carrot grown just a couple of decades ago.

That is because today’s farmers are under great financial pressure to take shortcuts. They use modern, intensive agricultural methods. And this strips away the nutrients in their soil.

As a result, the nutrient data of 12 sampled fresh vegetables found this astonishing depletion in just 22 years:

– calcium levels dropped 27%…
– iron levels dropped 37%…
– vitamin A levels dropped 21%…
– vitamin C levels dropped 30%.

Natural health pied pipers warn us to use supplements to replace lost nutrition.

But are supplements safe and effective?

Robert Lego and I discuss the truth about supplements in this podcast:

Is the Placebo effect remarkable (or just our imagination)?

The Placebo effect (also known as the placebo response) is of much debate.

The idea is to improve a patient’s condition simply because the person thinks it will be helpful.

Fake treatments such as sugar, distilled water – even saline solutions are typical placebo experiments.

But does administering a Placebo work in real life?

Robert Lego and I discuss the Placebo effect here – take a listen:

What do those PLU number codes mean on produce in the USA?

Did you know there is a fast and easy way to know how our produce was grown?

It is called a PLU (Price Look Up) code.

It tells us if the produce was genetically modified, organically grown or produced with chemical fertilizers, fungicides, or herbicides.

PLU Codes are displayed on a sticker with a 4- or 5-digit code on it.

The truth is PLU codes were never created for the benefit of “consumers.”

But savvy shoppers can use PLU codes to confirm how produce was created.

Poor nutrition, poor posture, higher stress levels and loads of time at the computer take a toll on our back.

For me, suffering with back pain significantly affected all areas of my life:

Playing with my two younger sons were painful.

Just bending down has been a chore.

Cooking and cleaning the dishes was a surefire way to suffer with sharp back pains, too.

And forget about those easy goin’ summer walks around the neighborhood. It was not worth the lower back pain that arrived just minutes into our travels.

But that all changed when an ol’ buddy of mine recommended a simple exercise to rid my lower back pain…
