How to get good directions to and from one place to another

We travel.

A lot.

Sure. Online maps are getting better.

But I find there are better, more accurate sources to get directions on the final leg of any trip.

When I am lost, I head straight for:

Pizza shops
If they offer delivery, I ask to see a delivery person.

This is my hand’s-down favorite source for accurate directions.

A watering hole
There are always people in the bar that know where everything is.

The fire department
There are always volunteers hanging out in the fire station ready to help me track down a final destination.

The back of a post office
Front clerks are not the best about giving directions.

Instead, I drive around the back (were mail gets taken in and out). These carriers know the town quite well.

Of course. They are the eyes and ears of the neighborhood.

Surprisingly, I have never gotten good directions from cabbies or gas station clerks.
